Captain's Closet Student Assistant

The Captain’s Closet Student Assistant is responsible for sorting and documenting clothing donations and managing the closet organization and cleanliness. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management: Maintain up-to-date record of clothing stock, including sizes and styles.
  • Sorting and Organizing: Sort and organize clothing donations.
  • Donation Management: Bag or dispose of unwanted clothing.
  • Space Management: Ensure closet is clean, organized, and accessible.
  • Quality Control: Evaluate donations and remove damaged or unsuitable items.
  • Communication: Communicate with staff about closet.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of clothing donations and distributions in Excel.
  • Front Desk: Manager will help with front desk responsibilities as needed, answering the phone, greeting guests, scheduling appointments and directing to resources.

Essential Skills :

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to sort and identify clothing items.
  • Knowledge of clothing sizes and styles.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry clothing items.

Career Planning and Development provides gently used and new business casual or business professional attire to UT Martin students via the Captain’s Closet. The Captain’s Closet is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The student manager will need to be available during these hours.
