Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader for ECON 201, CHEM 121, CHEM 122, NURS Level 2, & PSYC 318
The Student Success Center, in conjunction with the Library Learning Commons, is currently seeking qualified peer educators to assist students in the following courses:
- ECON 201 (Dr. Nanney)
- CHEM 121 (Dr. Birchfield or Dr. Handunneththige)
- CHEM 122 (Dr. Shuber)
- Nursing Level 2
- Psychology 318 (Dr. MacKewn)
SI Leaders need not have taken the professor for which they SI.
A successful SI Leader will work closely with their faculty mentor and the Student Success Center team to provide students with collaborative study session and one-on-one consultation throughout the semester during scheduled days and times.
Responsibilities
SI Leaders must work approximately 10 hours per week (minimum 125 hours per semester) and agree to the terms of employment which are tied to a Scholarship Agreement - paid from the Academic Support Fee.
- Before you are hired:
- Confirm you are able to attend lecture for the course you wish to SI.
- Confirm you are able to attend GENS 116 for training.
- Secure faculty referral from the professor with whom you wish to work (not always required).
- After you are hired:
- Attend two-day in-person training with the Student Success Center/Library Learning Commons the week prior to the first day of classes.
- Throughout the semester:
- Attend GENS 116, a one-credit-hour course for training.
- Attend all lectures for the course of which you SI.
- Hold three scheduled weekly hours of in-person collaborative study sessions, either two 1-hour and 15-minute sessions or three 50-minute sessions (this time rounds to three full hours - just like course credit).
- Hold two scheduled weekly hours of in-person student hours (formerly called office hours) to be held in the Library Learning Commons.
- During this time, you might be asked to work at the Welcome Desk with a friendly, professional, and helpful demeanor.
- Hold one scheduled weekly student hour via Zoom.
- After your first semester, if you wish to continue, you will attend mandatory ongoing training, as determined by the Student Success Center, which is approximately one hour per month.

Compensation
Pay will come in the form of three equal scholarship payments per semester. If there is a balance on the student's account, the scholarship payment will be automatically applied to that balance. Refunds will be issued by the Bursar's Office the Wednesday following the disbursement. The current scholarship amount is $1,500 per semester.
