Library Assistant, Information/Public Services

JOB SUMMARY:

Working with members of the User Services Team, the Library Assistant, Information/Public Services. Student Worker assists with the performance of administrative, technical, and clerical tasks related to the successful operation and administration of the Paul Meek Library’s collection resources, programmatic services, and functional area projects.  Primary duties involve working on campus providing assistance to Library visitors and patrons.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Able to work hours required by Library (which will include evening and/or weekend hours)

· Assists with operations and services performed at the Information Desk including, but not limited to: administrative/clerical duties; patron assistance; facility scheduling; greeting visitors/answering telephone; circulating items/equipment; making copies; facility opening/closing; and other related activities

· Assists patrons with directional and other basic reference inquiries; finding library materials; and locating resources (in coordination with library faculty and other library staff)

· Assists with circulation-related functions including processing of materials (including reserves); charging out of materials, receipt of materials, and inspection of returned items

· Maintains proper classification order through regular shelf reading and stack maintenance activities as assigned

· Utilizes departmental and related computer software programs and resources

· Assists with other projects related to the Paul Meek Library and its programs/services

· Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 Good interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and willingness to assist library patrons in a courteous and

professional manner

Must be dependable, attentive to detail, be able to recognize anomalies, and deal with varied and somewhat complex procedures

Demonstrated proficiency with computers and software, particularly Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)

Ability to work under direct supervision within an independent office/functional environment

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; climb on a step stool and/or ladder

Grade Point Average (GPA) – minimum 2.5 [on a 4 point scale]
