Library Student Assistant - Support Services

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Working under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Support Services. Student worker assists with the performance of administrative and clerical tasks related to the processing of new materials to be added to the library collection or for the processing of interlibrary loan requests for borrowing and lending of library materials, assists with the shelving, inventory, materials pickup, and monitoring of the library stacks; and provides directional assistance to the library patrons who need help while in the stacks.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Process new books and other materials to be shelf ready for patrons.
  • Retrieve books from the stacks for recording, relocating, withdrawing, or repairing.
  • Process archival materials following specialized guidelines.
  • Repair damaged books by following instructions for hinges, spines, loose or torn pages.
  • Shelves, shift, and straighten items in the library stacks maintaining call number order of materials.
  • Shelf read and dust books and shelves as needed, pulling damaged or misplaced items from the shelves.
  • Assist borrowers in locating materials and/or respond to other directional inquiries in the stacks.
  • Assist with other projects related to the Support Services Team and the Paul Meek Library (as assigned).
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be dependable, attentive to detail, able to recognize anomalies, and deal with varied and somewhat complex procedures.
  • Must be available to work within the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm M-F
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and software, particularly Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work under direct supervision within an independent office/functional environment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to life up to 20 pounds; climb on a step stool and/or ladder.
  • Good interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and willingness to assist library patrons in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Minimum GPA 2.5
